Unitrans has enjoyed a strong presence in Eswatini since 1960
Southern Star Logistics was founded in December 2017 through Unitrans joining forces with Swazi-owned, South Star Logistics, to form a 50%-50% joint venture with its head office based in Matsapha.
Southern Star Logistics offers a range of logistics services in the following industries:
- Inbound fuel logistics and local distribution within Eswatini
- Bulk and Bagged Cement distribution
- FMCG
- Agricultural services
With a staff compliment exceeding 320 employees and a revenue-earning fleet of more than 140 vehicles, Southern Star Logistics is proud to be one of the largest logistics companies in Eswatini.
The business is split into two divisions (Road Haulage & Agriculture) managed from three different depots namely Matsapha (Road Haulage), Tabankulu (Agric), and Ubombo (Agric). With a monopoly in fuel logistics within Eswatini the Road Haulage division makes up 88% of the business while Agriculture is earning only 12% of total revenue. With Unitrans' vast footprint in 9 other African countries, management believes that future growth opportunities for Southern Star Logistics lies in the Mining and Agriculture sectors.
With 66% of its Road Haulage business classified as “Dangerous Goods Logistics”, Southern Star Logistics derives its competitive advantage from being the safest operator in the industry. “Safety is not negotiable” and “Zero harm is achievable” – These are the mottos we live by.
